Dear Regimental Association,
As you may know we are placing a memorial in the UK's National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas in Staffordshire to honour all those who served and in memory of those who lost their lives in Cyprus during the Emergency of 1955 to 1959. I started the project after attending the unveiling of the North Cyprus Memorial in 2009 when I realized that there was no dedicated memorial in the UK to the 371 who lost their lives during the Cyprus Emergency. The project has the support of the Kyrenia Cyprus branch of the RBL of which I am a member.
The RAF have kindly transported a 4 ton rock from Cyprus which is being prepared in Norfolk (by those who made the North Cyprus Memorial) to have a plaque attached and a time capsule inserted containing the Roll of Honour of all 371 who gave their lives. So far all the costs have been covered by the donations of a few individuals. The stonemason who designed and constructed the Memorial in Cyprus has promised to provide his services free to prepare the rock, I have designed and donated the plaque (see attached photo) and time capsule. We are now working to raise the funds for the construction of the base on which the rock will be mounted.
We would like to complete the memorial by having all 46 regimental 'cap badges' engraved on the front of the base on which the Cypriot Memorial Rock will rest. We are asking for your agreement to having your regimental cap badge engraved on the memorial and would appreciate the donation of £100 towards the cost. Could you please let us have your agreement by the end of May to enable the completion of the Memorial in time for the unveiling which we plan to have the weekend of 20/21 of August. The Memorial will be unveiled by Air Chief Marshal, Sir Michael Grayson ex Chief of the Air Staff and trustee of the British Cyprus Memorial Trust.
We are not a registered charity, I am an individual national service veteran of the Cyprus Emergency, a life Member of the RMP Association no 13540 and a retired Magistrate who has worked for many years as the CEO of a large charity and am still a trustee for a major national charity. Cheques should be made payable to; D Littlemore-Cyprus Memorial, sent to me at; Trem y Mor, Borth y Gest. Porthmadog, LL49 9UF.

You will see from the attached photo that the Cyprus Memorial was officially unveiled last August , with over 500 veterans and families attending. We are holding a service the Memorial this year on the 21st of August and look forward to seeing any of your members who may wish to attend. We have fallen short on the funding of the Memorial so any donations will be very welcome.
